The THERMINATOR!   Chills to 70 degrees in less then 5 minutes.

My new automation upgrade.

This is the Mash Tun recirculation solenoid.

MMMMMM…….Cream Ale mash.

OK, this is my brewery.  It has seen a few upgrades in the past, and most recently, semi automation! The first picture is of the complete system I am using now.  I included pictures of the HLT, insulated Mash Tun, and the Boil Kettle.   This is a HERMS system, so I added better pictures of my heat exchange coil in the HLT.  I usually heat the HLT to about 190 degrees for a good 4 step infusion from 122 to 154 degrees.  The pump circulates the wort from the Mash Tun to the HLT and back into the top of the Tun.  I use 1.25 qts of water per lb.  of grain, and the sight glasses are all in 1 gallon increments up to 15 gallons.  Much easier then judging all the time.
I have 3 Love temp controllers, and 3 switches right now.  I have installed a pilot light on my HLT burner, and I am controlling the gas flow to it with the Temp controller and probe.  This will allow me to maintain any temp on the HLT.  My 2nd pump will be installed to circulate ice cold water from the HLT (after if is completed sparging, I will refill it and add ice.) through the Therminator and back into the HLT.  At the same time a separate pump will be circulatiing the hot wort through the wort side of the Therminator.  This will also be controlled with a Love controller and probe located in the Boil Kettle, and circulate until my desired temp is reached.  I will probably use the 3rd Love controller for controlling the Mash Tun Temp as it circulates through the HERMS.
The 3 switches will be for the system power, and 1 for each pump.
If you have any questions, drop me a line and I will be glad to go into more detail with you.  Better pictures coming soon.  Look for this system in BYO, in the systems to drool over section soon hopefully.
